What will you preach on Resurrection Sunday?

One of my favorite writers for First Things magazine is Lutheran pastor Russell E. Saltzman, of Ruskin Heights Lutheran Church in Kansas City. A few months ago he wrote about his mother’s descent into dementia, which resonated with me because we are on that same journey with my mother.

Today he announced in an article on First Things’ On the Square that his mother had died this past Monday, and asking preachers everywhere, “What will you preach on this Resurrection Sunday?” Or rather, he tells them what he does and doesn’t need to hear in the face of his mother’s death and in the face of our own mortality.
