Joomla! vs. WordPress

A couple of weeks ago I attended a webmaster course sponsored by OM, to help webmasters for the various fields to come up to speed using Joomla! which is used as the standard web platform within OM.
While I found the course extremely helpful, and finally had the sense that I was beginning to understand some of the logic behind Joomla!, I still find WordPress and its processing loop simpler and easier to comprehend. Additionally, I find the WordPress backend more userfriendly than the Joomla! backend, so that for the time being at least I will stick with WordPress for my own projects. My dream system, of course, would be WordPress-like, but written in Perl instead of PHP.
But in the meantime, I need to maintain at least one OM site, and a friend of mine whom I support technically in his web business also uses Joomla!, so everything I learned will come in handy.
