The Nazi Spirit is alive and well in Germany

That title got everyone’s attention, I hope.

It was prompted by repeated reports that in Germany, religious parents are routinely sent to prison for contempt for refusing to let their children participate in primary school sex education classes that present what they consider a values-free and thus immoral view of sexuality. The same thing happens to parents who for one reason or another want to home-school their children — that is illegal in Germany.

So, straight away an important disclaimer:

I am not saying that today’s German politicians and bureaucrats are nazis. What I am saying is that I see a definite kinship between the attitudes which allowed Adolf Hitler and his henchmen to seize power in the Germany of the 1930s, and the attitudes which cause today’s German politicians and bureaucrats to put parents into prison because they refuse to let their children attend questionable sex education classes in public schools.

The kinship lies in the fact that both require a view that gives the state more authority than the parents in the upbringing of children and generally, in determining the values by which its citizens shall live.

And the problem is not limited to Germany: hate speech legisation in places like the UK or Canada, which considers any negative comment about certain behaviors or inclinations as criminal “hate speech”, guidelines that declare people unfit to foster children unless they are prepared to express their approval of minority sexual behaviors, represent the same nazi spirit.

And the fact that as citizens we put up with this sort of stuff does not bode well for the future: when the “benevolent dictator” appears whom the Bible calls the antichrist, there will initially not be much opposition to him. By the time people wake up to the fact that his benevolence is only a thin veneer, it will be too late.
